Kauō means "egg" in Hawaiian, and is also the Hawaiian name for Laysan Island. This series of egg sculptures are cast from real Laysan Albatross eggs and made of Hawaiian beach debris and resin, set in a bed of sand and wood. Available at Fishcake, an art and home furnishings store in Honolulu.
Evoking the landscape of Hawaii Island's volcanic topography, Mauna lives between cloud forms, land and sea; lightness and heaviness; softness and hardness. The binding layers envelope an unseen mass of life beneath.
