  • Island

Island uses endemic New York grass plants from a local nursery to recreate a forgotten bucolic vista of Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The native grasses (Leersia virginica, Leersia oryzoides, Carex comosa) represent a homecoming and estrangement, reintroduced to a location where they once grew inside a building surrounded by urban industry. Island explores the tension of controlled green environments, as well as reflect a specific history and perspective of place.
